Vocational Rehabilitation Mission Statement

The overall mission of the Sacramento State rehabilitation- counseling program is to produce qualified rehabilitation counselors who posess the skills and dedication to assist individuals with disabilities in achieving self-determination, independence, meaningful employment, and full community integration. The program mission addresses the critical shortage of qualified rehabilitation counselors in the state of California and the nation and seeks to increase the number of counselors available to meet an ever-growing need.

Diversity

The program welcomes applications from indiveiduals with disabilities and from diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds. We are proud that the approximately 40% of our graduates are persons with disabilities and 35% are from ethnic minority groups.

Vocational Rehabilitation Program

A core of required graduate courses -- including psychological and medical aspects of disabilities, work evaluation, case practices, job placement, counseling theory and practice, appraisal, multicoultural counseling, and research methods -- provides the basic knowledge and skills to function in the rehabilitation field. Individual practicum is completed on campus and an internship is performed at a rehabilitation agency that serves consumers with diabilities.
