Guidelines for Supervision of Masters Level MFCC Trainees
Overview
-
Supervision of trainees will be provided by either a currently licensed MFT, social worker, psychologist, or a board certified psychiatrist in accordance to the Board of Behavioral Science’s (BBS) regulations.
-
Trainees will receive either one hour of individual supervision or two hours of group supervision per 5 hours of direct client contact. A maximum of 5 supervision hours per week may be claimed towards licensure hours.
-
Trainees will complete a written agreement prior to the start of their placement indicating the number of hours per week and the duration of their field study.
-
Supervisors will help ensure that trainees use not less than 40% of their total field study hours in direct service to clients that can include individual, couple, family, group and/or telephone counseling.
-
Trainees will provide hours log to their supervisor each week to be signed, and the appropriate periodic evaluations that need to be completed and submitted to the CSUS seminar instructor.
-
Supervisors will screen trainees to ensure goodness of fit with the field study site and their clientele. Supervisors will also provide supervision consistent with trainees’ level of clinical skills, experience and theoretical development.
-
Supervisors will help ensure that trainees receive any specialized training that is necessary to effectively serve the clientele. Training hours will count towards field study hours.
-
Supervisors will help ensure that trainees adhere to the field study site’s policies and procedures, as well as the direction of their direct assigned supervisors, while in their positions as trainees. Supervisors may contact trainees’ seminar instructor at CSUS to review the progress of trainees.
-
Supervisors will strive to place trainees according to their particular interests, to the extent that those placements will best meet the service needs of the clientele. Supervisors will also screen cases for suitability prior to assignment to trainees.
