Out-of-State and Out-of-Country Prepared Teachers

Clearing a Preliminary Multiple Subject, Single Subject or Level I Education Specialist Teaching Credential Based on an Out-of-State program

If you hold a preliminary California credential issued prior to January 1, 2007 which was based on a professional preparation program from another state and wish to be evaluated for a Clear Multiple or Single Subject credential by Sacramento State University, contact the Credential Analysts Office at 278-4567.  There is a $50 evaluation fee if you have not attended Sacramento State.

If your credential was issued January 1, 2007 or later, contact your employing school district or the Commission on Teacher Credentialing for renewal requirements.  In addition, the following are helpful links to information on the CTC website referring to Out-of-State Prepared Teachers.

Out-of-Country Prepared Teachers

California has a two-tier credential structure.  A five year preliminary credential is the first credential issued after an individual meets basic credential requirements.  A clear credential is issued when all credential requirements have been completed.
