Child Development Major B

The Child Development Major B Academic Program with Pre-Credential Preparation is most appropriate for those who are interested in teaching public elementary school. Students who follow this option receive a strong foundation in Child Development and meet subject matter competence in the seven categories identified by the Commission on Teacher Credentialing:

  1. Human Development (34 units)
  2. Language and Literature (18 units)
  3. Mathematics (9 units)
  4. Natural and Physical Sciences (12-18 units)
  5. Social Sciences and Humanities (24 units)
  6. The Arts (12 units)
  7. Physical Education (6 units).

Successful completion of this option demonstrates subject matter competence identified by the Commission on Teacher Credentialing. Students must still take and pass the California Basic Educational Skills Test (CBEST) and California Subject Examinations for Teachers (CSET). Students in this program must adhere to the general University requirements, such as Advanced Study and Foreign Language Proficiency.
