Degree Completion Checklist /Deadlines
In the first year:

Attend graduate student orientation (typically early in the Fall semester) |

Make an appointment to see a Child Development faculty member (or stop by during office hours) to discuss the program, in your first semester. We suggest meeting with a faculty advisor each semester. |

If you are conditionally classified |
meet any conditions (typically coursework) required for full classification status |

Complete required foundation coursework – designed to be taken in 1st year! |

File Advancement to Candidacy (after completing 9-12 units and completed step 1 of Graduate GWAR requirement) |

Complete core course and elective requirements; remember that not all courses are offered every semester. |

Secure sponsor for project/thesis |
In the year prior to beginning your culminating experience (thesis/project/exam)

Enroll in CHDV 290 (Culminating seminar for thesis/project) or CHDV 292 (Seminar for Exam option) |
9 |
Submit reservation form for enrollment in CHDV 504 (thesis) or CHDV 505 (Exam) |
10 |
If completing thesis/project, meet with thesis/project sponsor to work on petition and go over thesis guidelines. See: Thesis/Project Handbook |

If completing exam, review Exam Handbook |
12 |
Submit Thesis/Project petition (and Human Subjects forms, if applicable), OR Exam Petition (Petition review deadlines are listed in Deadlines and Announcements page) |

See Important Dates for exact dates for theses/projects. Theses/projects must be completed within two semesters of completion of CHDV 504 to avoid re-enrolling in CHDV 504.
Graduation
Prior to graduation, an application for graduation
is filed in the Graduate Center by the deadline date published in the Class Schedule and *Dates and Deadlines* page. All coursework leading to the Master's degree must be completed within a seven-year period.
