- Earn 3 units of undergraduate or graduate Academic Credit (Sacramento State - Independent Study)
- Increase your Spanish proficiency in all areas as you study 4-5 hours each day (Mon-Fri) in small-class Spanish language instruction with experienced teachers (maximum 5 students). Learn more about Cemanáhuac by visiting its excellent web site in English: www.cemanahuac.com.
- Engage in Intercambio exchanges with young Mexican professionals to practice your Spanish and deepen your intercultural understanding.
- Involve yourself in optional cultural activities: piñata-making, weaving, cooking classes, music and more.
(Dr. Baird is a musician and there will be lots of singing
a la mexicana).
- Become part of a Mexican family at your home-stay, with double occupancy and 3 meals per day, single rooms add $9 per day.
- (maximum of two students per family).
- Visit a local public elementary school in Cuernavaca and meet teachers and students.
- During the Seminar, learn about the strengths and challenges of the educational system in Mexico facing teachers, families and students, and how this relates
to the education of immigrant students in the U.S.
- Join with Cemanáhuac tours to Teotihuacán & other pre-Columbian sites, as well as to villages, markets and museums (Frida Kahlo & Diego Rivera) in the Cuernavaca and Mexico City region ($10 - $45 dollars, not included).
- You may continue the home-stay and language study on your own if you choose (costs not included).
- You will have an experienced guide and educator who grew up in Mexico, and like the teachers at Cemanáhuac, wants you to love the language and culture as much as he does.
