The Bilingual Multicultural Education Department sponsors an annual Multicultural Education Conference to provide an opportunity for Sac State faculty and educators to join forces in their efforts to promote multicultural education in K-12 public schools in the Sacramento region.

The conference is part of an ongoing process for developing and maintaining a professional support network for the College of Education faculty, alumni, preservice Multicultural/Multilingual Teacher Preparation Association (MMTPA) teachers in the BMED Department, and in-service cooperating teachers, many of whom are former BMED graduates who are committed to the goals of multicultural education.

Due to the numerous reform efforts that that are particularly affecting educators who serve culturally and linguistically diverse students, the Bilingual Multicultural Education Department views this conference as an opportunity to provide more outreach and positive public relations for the university. The conference will accomplish its goals by offering a keynote speaker and break-out sessions related to multicultural education. Sac State faculty and teacher presentations will be voluntary without honorarium.

The conference sponsors want all interested educators to have an opportunity to participate as current educational budget constraints limit many teachers' abilities to obtain school district funds and substitute release days in order to attend professional conferences. Approximately 45 break-out sessions will be presented by faculty, teachers and students at the conference. Service learning opportunities are available for MMTPA students in the BMED program to assist at the conference.
