Eligibility
The CSU Mexico BCLAD Program is designed fro teacher candidates who are interested in pursuing a career in bilingual elementary education and who meet the various requirements for admission to the BCLAD credential programs offered at CSU OTEC campuses. A list of CSU ITEC campuses and representatives in provided on the back of this brochure.
To be eligible for admission to the BCLAD program in Mexico, applicants must:

Take required tests for entrance into a California teaching credential program including the CBEST and CSET exams as soon as possible; tests must be taken before the application deadline to the program, November 30. Students must pass the CBEST and CSET exams before California student teaching.

Take prerequisite courses for entrance into a California teaching credential program including a course on special needs children, a course on health education, and a course on the legal and historical foundations of the education of English Learners. See your ITEC representative for a list of these courses at their home CSU campus.

Take prerequisite courses for the bilingual authorization (BCLAD) including a course on English linguistics or language structure, and a course on Chicano/Latino history. See your ITEC representative for a list of these courses at their home CSU campus.

Successfully complete at least one intermediate, college-level Spanish course or equivalent.

Be admitted to the Multiple Subject BCLAD program at a cooperating CSU ITEC campus.

Obtain a favorable recommendation based on an interview with the ITEC representative at the cooperating CSU ITEC campus.

Possess strong academic skills, personal maturity, and a high degree of commitment to the teaching profession in general, and specifically, to working in low-income schools with high numbers of English learners.
